Spirits were high as bus-loads of students, staff and supporters arrived at Leaside Memorial Gardens on December 11. Fans were greeted with a spirited welcoming squad and of course The Grizzly! It was Greenwood’s first-ever Hockey Day and the whole school was invited to cheer on our Sr Girls’ and Sr Boys’ hockey teams.
The Sr. Girls’ hockey team saw success early on with a goal early on in the first period against Country Day School. It was a great sign of things to come as the team won the game 8 to 3 in a fun, fast-paced and decisive victory.
The Sr Boys’ team took on Upper Canada College in their game. Greenwood opened up the scoring yet again in this game before falling 2 to 1 by the end of the first period. The boys played a fierce game, chasing to equalize the game in the third period but sadly, lost 4 to 3 by the final buzzer.
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
