At Greenwood, we take mentoring seriously. We are a school built on character and community, and we want our new staff to feel welcomed and valued.
Supporting Our Mentees We take time to listen and get to know the new members of our community. We also welcome back members who have been away on leave to ensure they are feeling supported in their return. Additionally, for our mentees we:
Offer Onboarding in June and August
Plan for group meetings with new staff throughout the year
Plan scheduled times for mentees to meet with their mentor and also for mentors and mentees to meet informally
Supporting Our Mentors Led by Blair Yungblut, we build a team of mentors who support each other as well as their mentees. We also engage mentors in contributing to the plan for transitioning those who were on leave and welcoming new members to our community. Additionally, for our mentors we:
Provide training in caring communities
Provide training in solution-focused conversations
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
