Providing Meals for Out of the Cold Program

For the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Greenwood returned to St. Matthew’s United Church to take part in the Out of the Cold Foundation’s program. Out of the Cold is an interfaith, 100% volunteer-run organization which offers support in providing shelter, food and clothing to those in need. Prior to 2020, Greenwood regularly participated in the onsite Out of the Cold meal program. Between 2020 and 2023, Greenwood’s service learning program also fundraised for Out of the Cold programming in lieu of being able to participate onsite at St. Matthew’s. 

On April 30, Greenwood was finally able to return to the church and provide freshly cooked meals for Out of the Cold. Participating students provided a five-course spread for the evening meal, which consisted of salad, soup, a main course along with two side dishes. Students remarked about how much they enjoyed preparing and cooking these fresh meals. The Out of the Cold volunteers much appreciated Greenwood’s presence in St. Matthew’s kitchens. We look forward to being on site for more Out of the Cold service learning programming in 2024-2025.
