Greenwood Students Invited to Sterling Hall School’s Invitational Public Speaking Contest

On April 3, select Grade 7 and 8 students from independent schools across the region were invited to participate in Sterling Hall School’s annual Invitational Public Speaking contest. Students were nominated by their schools to compete in the contest. Earlier in the year, Kate Claydon ‘29 and Maya Kassam ‘28 were selected for the speeches they gave in their respective English classes. All competitors chose their own topics and wrote their own speeches.

“It was an amazing experience to be in the Sterling Hall speech competition. Everyone's speeches were incredible; my personal favourite was the one about their grandmother getting amnesia,” says Kate ‘29. “I loved learning all this new information from the other speeches. My speech was about making school more creative and less stressful. Even though I did not win, I was very glad to have had the experience.”

“Speaking at the 2024 Sterling Hall Speech Competition was a great experience,” Maya ‘28 adds. “Many topics were discussed and it was amazing to learn about different things occurring in the world. My speech was about the effects of VR and digital media. Being able to present and practise my public speaking skills is something I am so grateful for. I had a great time and I am looking forward to honing my skills throughout my time at Greenwood.”
