Another Astounding Arts Week!

Tihmily Li, Communications Officer
Students had the opportunity to explore their artistic side this Arts Week, with a wide variety of activities throughout the week.

This year, several activities were also linked to our Service Learning Program. There was a collection drive through the week for art supplies for Boys and Girls Club while the Grade 7s and 8s decorated cookies for the organization. Students also crocheted stuffies for seniors with dementia as part of the Light Up Squad service learning program.

Arts Week culminated in this year’s final Greenwood Mic on May 15 during Community Time. Later on in the evening, we hosted the Arts Everywhere! Evening where families and friends came to check out our students’ artistic endeavours in visual arts, media arts, music, drama and film. The amazing displays of visual art, woodworking and media arts lined the hallways on the ground floor as well as part of the Lodge. Several school bands and choirs performed upstairs in the gym for a captive audience. Senior Drama students performed a play, which the class wrote themselves, in the school’s Theatre. This was followed by a showcase of mini documentaries and a Grade 12 TV pilot episode on the Theatre’s projection screen.

Missed the Arts Everywhere! showcase? You can view many of the visual arts, media arts and films here.

What an amazing week and really goes to show how vibrant the art scene is here at Greenwood! Check out a recap of the activities from the week.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
