For Kylie Armstrong ‘25, the Chancellor’s Scholarship from Queen’s University represents a dream come true.
Each year, Queen’s University offers 50 Chancellor’s Scholarships to exceptional, incoming first-year students. Potential recipients of the scholarship must first be nominated by their high school principal to begin the application process. Once nominated, the student can then provide a detailed application.
This year, Kylie is one of the 50 students to be awarded this prestigious award. While Greenwood students have applied for the Chancellor’s Scholarship each year in the past, this is the first time a Greenwood student has been awarded the scholarship.
Kylie was inspired to apply to the Chancellor’s Scholarship after learning about how Lauren Kohler ‘24 was awarded
the Hellmuth Scholarship last year.
“When Lauren got the Hellmuth scholarship, I wanted to look for similar scholarships too,” says Kylie.
Kylie was surprised to find out she received the scholarship, when she happened to be online in late February.
“I was just scrolling through the Queen’s residence portal and I saw a pop-up about my scholarship,” Kylie recalls the moment she found out. “I couldn’t believe that I just happened to be logged in to see this. Queen’s University then sent me a formal notice afterwards.”
For Kylie, this is a dream come true – her dream Commerce program has always been the one at Queen’s University. Last year, she attended the Queen’s Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Development (QLEAD) Conference, which helped her to gain a better understanding of the business world and the campus environment. “I participated in the business case competition there and learned so much,” says Kylie. She also has participated in rugby development camps at Queen’s University so she is also keen to try joining their rugby program as a varsity athlete.
“I am also excited to take part of their many extracurricular clubs that align with my interests such as Extra Awesome Club, which is like the
Exceptionality Awareness Club here at Greenwood; Best Buddies Program; Women in Business; Women in STEM; and Women in Investing,” Kylie adds.
Kylie will have the opportunity to renew this scholarship each year while at Queen’s provided that she maintains a GPA of 3.5 with a full course load.
Congratulations once again to Kylie! This is a remarkable achievement and great start to your postsecondary education.
