Learning Robotics during a Grade 7 Integration Project

Tihmily Li, Communications Officer
Students in Grade 7 and 8 have several integration projects throughout the year that incorporates their learning from different subjects. For these projects, students work in teams.

In March, students built connections between math and science. This particular project focused on integrating the Grade 7 students’ learning from science and mathematics to create robots.

Using robotic kits from Lego, students learned to design and program robots in teams. To help students get started with the kits, Code Ninjas ran a special workshop to teach the Grade 7s Scratch and Python coding. At the end of the week, the robots faced off to see who was the last one standing!

These opportunities help students achieve a more fulsome, holistic view of their education.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
