Recognizing Achievements at the Winter Athletics Assembly

Tihmily Li, Communications Officer
Spirits were already high with the festivities of Spirit Week and the upcoming March Break. On Thursday, March 6, the entire school gathered in high spirits to celebrate another astounding winter athletic season. It has been a spectacular term, with 22 athletic teams, eight Grade 12 spotlight events, one CAIS tournament banner, two CISAA championships and fantastic results at OFSAA for the Senior Swimming team.

Following a fantastic fall season, the winter season also saw stellar performances. The Senior Boys’ Basketball team won first place in the CAIS Division II tournament back in November. More recently, Lilly Cloth ‘27, Mel Edgell ‘25, Davis O’Connor ‘25, Ainsley Parker ‘25 and Nikita Wood ‘25 qualified for OFSAA from the Sr Swimming team. The swimmers performed exceptionally well at OFSAA, taking home gold for the Sr Girls 200 metre freestyle relay (Mel Edgell ‘25, Davis O'Connor ‘25, Ainsley Parker ‘25 and Nikita Wood ‘25) while Nikita Wood ‘25 won gold for the 200 metre freestyle and Ainsley Parker ‘25 won bronze in the 100 metre Individual Medley race.

On December 11, we hosted our first Hockey Day at Leaside Memorial Gardens as the Sr Girls’ and Sr Boys’ Hockey teams played against Country Day School and Upper Canada College respectively. The entire school community was bussed in to cheer on our Grizzlies. Continuing from the success of the fall term’s Friday Afternoon Lights, we also hosted our second Friday Afternoon Lights on January 17. The school community came to cheer on the Sr Boys’ Basketball and Sr Girls’ Volleyball teams as each played against Appleby College.

Congratulations to the teams that brought home CISAA Championships this term:

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
