Students and staff showcase musical talents at Greenwood Mic and Junior Greenwood Mic

Alexis Dobranowski, Communications Manager
Kudos to all the students (and staff!) who participated in last month’s Junior Greenwood Mic and Greenwood Mic. The first two events of the year were interactive, entertaining — and loud!

Things got underway on October 24 at the second-ever Junior Greenwood Mic. The audience got warmed up through an all-in Just Dance Cha Cha Slide, followed by a solo performance by Simona Sera ‘29 of “C’est L’Halloween”. Kasey Codilla ‘27, Ander Smith ‘27 and Lucas Orsi ‘27 performed a rendition of Coldplay’s “The Scientist” on drums, guitar and keyboard.

The audience was then treated to a preview of the Junior School Musical: Frozen Jr. Keep an eye out for tickets to go on sale soon. Congratulations to all cast members!

Next, an inter-grade group took to the stage for “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day, with  sibling duo Sam Claydon ‘27 and Kate Claydon ‘29 on vocals, Kasey Codilla ‘27 on keys, Ander Smith ‘27 on guitar and Elliot Veneziano ‘29 on drums.

The assembly ended with an energetic sing-along to Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten”, with Greenwood’s teachers leading the way.

On Friday, October 25, Greenwood Mic showcased musical talents from all grades for a Haunted Hits event.

The Waghmare sibling duo Charlie ‘25 and Liv ‘29 kicked things off with “Hotel California” by the Eagles.

The Jr. Guitar Club – Diana Borlase ‘26, Kasey Codilla ‘27 and Elliot Veneziano ‘29 – played Up On the Sun by the Meat Puppets, with Diana on vocals and Elliot on drums.

Mr. Ruston led us all in a Red Hot Chili Peppers sing-a-long.

Carter Murphy ‘26, Kasey Codilla ‘27, Diana Borlase ‘26 and Elliot Venenziano ‘29 played The Killing Moon by Echo and the Bunnymen, and the Sr. Guitar Club – Mel Edgell ‘25, Charlotte Hounsome ‘25, Phoebe Gregson ‘25, Kalina Mehta ‘25, Nicole Moscoe ‘26 and Danielle Tylman ‘25 – rocked out with their rendition of The Middle by Jimmy Eat World.

Thank you to all involved for sharing your talents with us.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
