Greenwood student reaches Personal Best at Olympic Swim Trials

Congratulations to Jack Loewen ‘24 who recently achieved a personal best at the Canadian Olympic Swim Trials in May 2024.

We caught up briefly with Jack – now a Greenwood Graduate! – about his time at the swim meet. He swam the 200 metre butterfly.

1. How'd it feel to be at the Olympic Trials?

It definitely felt very different from any other meet I’d been at. The crowd was way larger, and there was way more pressure. Seeing all the fastest people in the country definitely humbled me a bit as well.

2. How did it feel to achieve your personal best time at such a big meet?

It was a long road to getting that best time, so I was happy to reach my goal at a meet like this.

3. What do you like about competitive swimming and how long have you been competing?

I like that it’s an individual sport and I like to compete at a high level. I started swimming competitively at age 8.

4. What is next on your horizon?

Next on the horizon for me is Nationals at the end of July, a short break in August, and then the start of university swimming in September. I’ll be swimming for the Western Mustangs.
