2012 NHL Draft Pick Tom Wilson Comes to Greenwood

Kate Raven

Elite sports can be a roller-coaster ride for many athletes, and this was true of Tom this year. He was selected 16th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Washington Capitals, and was selected to play in the 2012 Central Hockey League Top Prospects Game. He was also invited to the Team Canada training camp for the 2012 Canadian World Junior team; he made it to the last round of tryouts, but was unfortunately cut from the squad. He is currently playing for the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League.

Tom will speak from experience to Greenwood students about the importance of hard work, perseverance, and grit, even when things aren’t going your way.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
