Welcomes & Farewells on our Board of Directors

Kate Raven
Greenwood is pleased to announce that Richard E. Venn, Bill Morneau, and Glen Stewart have joined the school’s Board of Directors. We are delighted that Richard, Bill, and Glen will be lending their considerable experience and unique backgrounds to guiding and supporting the school in the years to come.

Richard E. Venn is Senior Executive Vice-President of CIBC, where he advises the President and CEO and CIBC’s Senior Leadership Team on identifying and developing strategic initiatives and joint ventures for CIBC. He also fills the ongoing role of CIBC’s National Diversity Champion. Richard’s volunteer work includes serving on the Foundation Board of Mount Sinai Hospital and the Audit and Finance Committee of the United Way of Greater Toronto; he was also on the Board of United Synagogue Day School (now Robbins Hebrew Academy) for 6 years. Richard and his wife Carol have 3 children: Madeleine, Grace, and Noah (Greenwood ’16).

Bill Morneau is Executive Chairman of Morneau Shepell, the largest Canadian firm providing human resource consulting and outsourcing services. Under Bill’s leadership, the firm has grown from 150 to 2,500 employees, gone public on the Toronto Stock Exchange, and completed numerous acquisitions, including the acquisition of Shepell fgi in 2008. Bill is Chair of the Board of Directors at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, and Chair of the Board of Directors at the C.D. Howe Institute. He is also on several other Boards, including the Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation. Bill lives in Toronto with his wife, Nancy McCain, and his three children, Henry (Greenwood ’15), Clare, and Edward. Bill and Nancy are also guardians for Grace Acan, a grade 9 student they sponsored to come to Canada from northern Uganda.

Glen Stewart is the Chief Financial Officer for the Soutterham Group. He is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, and is also a Chartered Accountant. A former tax accountant with PwC, his involvement with Greenwood goes back to the early days of the school. Glen was responsible for incorporating the school and its foundation, and he was very involved with our construction project. From the start, he has been a key member of the school's Finance Committee, and he has played an important role in devising and implementing the fiscal plan that has resulted in the school's current strong financial position. He currently serves as Greenwood's Corporate Secretary.

Greenwood would also like to give sincere thanks to our two departing Board members, Dave Hadden and David D’Agostino.

Dave Hadden came to the very first meeting about Greenwood, organized by John Latimer. At that time, he was the head of Lakefield College School, but he didn’t think the idea of our new school sounded too crazy. Over the years, Dave was an incredible resource to Greenwood. He served on various committees, and he was always available to ask for advice. He remains a huge Greenwood fan and is not just available, but eager to help us as needed.

David D'Agostino has also been with Greenwood since the beginning. David has worked tirelessly behind the scenes over the years, performing such key tasks as helping to arrange the purchase of the school site, arranging insurance, and reviewing contractual documents. Dave is now living in Canmore, outside Banff National Park, but he remains eager to stay involved with the school.

We appreciate Dave and David sharing their time and expertise with us as Greenwood has grown, and we wish them all the best.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
