Spring 2024 Athletics Assembly

Greenwood celebrated the many accomplishments of our athletes during the 2024 Spring Athletics season at an assembly on May 27. A highlight slideshow kicked things off highlighting many moments from the season, such as the rugby CISAA championships or Grade 12 Spotlight Games. While the spring season is shorter compared to the fall and winter seasons, there was still plenty of frenetic energy from our Grizzlies!

Participating athletes from each sport were called down to stand proudly before the community as we recognized the recipients of the MVP and Coach’s Award for their teams. Grade 12 athletes were also given special Grizzly socks or stickers in recognition of their leadership and dedication as Grizzlies.

The winter season’s swimming team were recognized at the assembly as the team was competing at OFSAA during the Winter Athletics Assembly.

This assembly was a special send-off to the graduating execs of the Athletics Committee, Torin Lang ‘24 and Maddy Sergnese ‘24. They, along with junior exec Ainsley Parker ‘25, worked tirelessly to ensure that Greenwood Athletics ran smoothly all year. We also welcomed our incoming Athletics Committee execs who’ll join Ainsley next year, James Fisher Holy ‘25 and Abi Reid ‘25.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
