Greenwood's Return to Spirit Day

As the weather outside begins to heat up, so does the competition. With the school year coming to a close, the race to win the House Cup is in the home stretch.  On Friday, May 20, students from every grade will gather into their Houses to compete in an all-day competition, lovingly called Spirit Day, as a final grab for House points. 

For the past two years, Spirit Day has had to pivot to accommodate the school’s move to remote learning. This year is the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic that students from every grade can come together in a beautiful park to face off in a head-to-head competition. Events like tug of war, a tire derby, and a funfair will serve as opportunities for all of the Houses to earn some final House points before the end of the year, and one final grab at the House Cup. 

Our devoted House Captains are getting their Houses ready for the event by planning and organizing House Buddy group meetings to strengthen relationships between students in the same House, re-ignite students’ competitive spirit, and practice House cheers. 

The eight Houses — West, Fraiser, Nahani, Whernam, Latimer, Yukon, Tompson, and Churchill — have been competing throughout the year in various competitions to earn House points. Currently, Fraser is in first with a whopping 719 points but Latimer is only 5 points behind. It’s been an incredibly close competition all year, but Spirit Day is a big opportunity to bring home some major House points.  

So break out that House swag and that competitive grizzly spirit, and good luck to all the Houses at this year's Spirit Day.
