This year, I had the pleasure of doing my placement at Core Physiotherapy and Wellness on Avenue Road, where we offer physiotherapy, chiropractic and massage services. My regular tasks within the workplace include setting up and putting away various machines like the Class 4 laser and shockwave therapy devices. Recently, I've also been assisting at the front desk – handling payments, answering phone inquiries and scheduling appointments.
What I love about going to my placement is the vibrant energy within the building and the opportunity to meet new people every day. Working alongside my coworkers in a productive environment adds to the enjoyment of my experience. Participating in the co-op program feels fantastic — it's a chance to gain valuable work experience and step out of my comfort zone with a smile on my face.
Through this experience, I've learned the significance of social skills in the workplace. Something as simple as a warm greeting and a firm handshake can make a lasting impression. I hope that my co-op experience prepares me for any future career path I choose to pursue. It's helped me understand the importance of professionalism and effective communication, which I believe will be beneficial in any field I enter.
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
